- ➤ Charleston County’s coroner identified Troy Smith Jr., 35, and Latrice Milligan, 37, as the two residents who died in a townhome fire on Radcliffe Street during the Thursday morning blaze on March 13, 2025—fire officials said the fire began in the living room with no smoke alarms and investigators are reviewing the cause. - ➤ The South Carolina House passed its first draft of the $14 billion 2025-26 state budget by a 99+13 vote just after midnight on March 12 amid fierce disputes between GOP regulars and hard-right Freedom Caucus members, and the bill moves to the Senate. The spending plan includes tax cuts, teacher pay raises, funds for roads and bridges, and disaster recovery for Hurricane Helene. Charleston City Paper
- ➤ Activists led by Rep. Hamilton Grant met at the Statehouse steps on Thursday to ask lawmakers to expand gun-background-checks and fix a loophole linked to the 2015 Emanuel AME Church massacre.
