- ➤ Investigators recovered the body of a kayaker missing from Lake Marion (found on March 16th) and are now working to determine what led to his death. Live 5 News

- ➤ Once celebrated as the pride of the city, the Hirsch-Israel Building opened on Jan 19th, 1897 at the corner of King and Wentworth streets with a granite façade — a 42‑foot cupola and an ornate entrance that impressed locals. Over time the building served as a bank and discount store before only its original deep‑set doorway remains to mark its storied past. The Post and Courier

- ➤ An FBI investigation into a North Charleston gun violence program that spent $1.3 million to fund 13 nonprofits uncovered public corruption and led to charges of bribes, money laundering and kickbacks. Three city council members and five other officials were charged last month—one ex-council member admitted to taking $40,000 in kickbacks. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Andy Felts, professor emeritus at the College of Charleston, noted a March 10 report showing South Carolina gets $3.42 for every federal dollar sent and warned that future cuts in federal spending may risk local services such as roads, public health and jobs—highlighting the state’s heavy dependence on these funds.
