ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Police in Hanahan responded to a deadly train accident Thursday evening near Northbrook Drive — Eagle Landing Boulevard after reports showed an individual was struck by a train around 5 p.m. and confirmed one person dead.  Count On 2

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Chef Jason Stanhope, a James Beard Award winner, is becoming part owner of Sullivan’s Seafood & Bar on Sullivan’s Island. The chef—leaving Lowland restaurant—said he will restore its original name and add fresh local menu items when he joins later spring or early summer.  Charleston City Paper

CRIME NEWS

  • On Wednesday, a multi-agency warrant sweep led by the Summerville Police Department in Dorchester and Berkeley Counties resulted in 13 arrests — including Johnny Johnson who faced charges for fentanyl possession, failure to stop for blue lights and driving under suspension — as approximately 35 officers served outstanding warrants.  My TV Charleston
  • Marcos Arthur Pinheiro, an undocumented migrant, was arrested on Wednesday in Dorchester County after a January tip led officials to accuse him of scamming homeowners out of $45,000 by falsifying construction contract charges and forging documents—U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is now involved.  My TV Charleston

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The South Carolina House unanimously passed a bill that will dissolve Charleston County’s eight constituent school boards on July 1 and transfer their duties to the county School Board—critics say the current model has led to inconsistent discipline. The bill now moves to the Senate, where it is expected to pass without opposition.  Count On 2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina remains under drought with low humidity and strong south-southeast winds—30 active wildfires are burning across the state, including two uncontrolled fires in Pickens and Greenville with evacuation orders in effect. A burn ban is in place and a cold front will bring rain and scattered thunderstorms on Sunday to help ease the dry conditions.  South Carolina ETV

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Today, Navy Yard Charleston has redeveloped Storehouses Eight and Nine—featuring 86 luxury apartments, creative office space, and restaurant space—and is planning further projects including an upscale rooftop restaurant and the Charleston Design District to link housing, commerce, and transit near the Cooper River.  Charleston City Paper

  • The 25th Credit One Charleston Open tennis tournament will begin tomorrow as families and tennis fans prepare for the matches. Organizers completed last-minute improvements to the court and venue using 400 volunteers and 130 ball kids to ensure a memorable event.  ABC 4 News
