CRIME NEWS

  • Police said one person was injured in a shooting at North Charleston’s bar El Patio on Dorchester Road Saturday night— the victim was taken to a hospital for treatment and no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.  ABC 4 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • In April 1861, as tensions rose over Fort Sumter in Charleston, President Lincoln secretly sent a naval expedition to resupply the fort while Confederate leaders prepared to defend the harbor—actions that set off the chain of events leading to the Civil War.  The Post and Courier
  • Governor Henry McMaster and state lawmakers proposed an income tax reform to lower the rate from 6.2% to 3.99% with plans to eventually reduce it to 2.49% so residents can keep more of their earnings. Senator Larry Grooms called for Treasurer Curtis Loftis's removal after an investigation into a nearly $1.8B error was completed—while developers plan a casino near Interstate 95 in Orangeburg County as gaming legalization is considered.  ABC 4 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • With less than a week until the Cooper River Bridge Run, runners are finishing their training and stopping by The Foot Store in Mount Pleasant for proper shoe fittings and race day essentials. Owner Carolyn Varndell said well-fitted shoes and fresh socks help prevent blisters and support recovery—store hours are Tuesday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.  ABC 4 News
  • The Stingrays matched their franchise win record on Saturday with their 48th win—scoring 7-1 over the Kalamazoo Wings to mark a 13-game winning streak. They will return home for Fan Appreciation Night on April 5 with free parking and bobbleheads for the first 1,000 fans.  ABC 4 News
  • Defending champion South Carolina reached the Final Four by beating Duke 54-50 on Sunday as forward Chloe Kitts scored 14 points— the Gamecocks will face the winner of Monday’s Texas-TCU game with a Final Four contest scheduled for Friday night in Tampa.  ABC 4 News
