- ➤ A North Charleston man, Curtis Alan Smith, 69, was found guilty for the November 2020 murder of his on-and-off girlfriend, Jennifer Grant, 36, and for burying and dumping her body on train tracks—sentencing him to life without parole—after a four-day trial. The Post and Courier
- ➤ 45-year-old Charleston entrepreneur Eric Bowman turned himself in Tuesday at Al Cannon Detention Center on charges of harassment (1st degree) and stalking filed by his wife, and he later received a $10,000 surety bond with a no-contact order as his accuser said he posed an ongoing danger while Rep. - ➤ An April 7th report from the Criminal Justice Coordinating Council showed that the Sheriff Al Cannon Detention Center’s bookings shifted when charges for unlawful carry dropped after a law change and DUI warrants nearly tripled from 2022 to 2024—case processing remains slow with over half pending for more than a year. - ➤ Charleston City Council is expected to approve a $1.1 million contract at its meeting today to kickstart construction on the Lowcountry Lowline, which will build a 12-foot-wide bike trail and a 10-foot-wide walkway along the old railroad bed under I-26 — the first phase runs from Mount Pleasant Street to Line Street. City leaders also plan to extend the project to include Newmarket Creek as a park — aiming to improve connectivity across neighborhoods. Charleston City Paper
