- ➤ Yesterday, dozens of USS Laffey veterans and family members gathered at Patriots Point to honor the historic warship that survived a kamikaze strike near Okinawa in April 1945 where over 30 sailors died and more than 70 were injured. - ➤ Joseph Anthony Lance, 74— a Charleston resident— died at 7:05 a.m. on Wednesday at Roper St. Francis Hospital after a Toyota sedan struck him around 6:15 a.m. on Savannah Highway at Skylark Drive, and police are investigating the auto-pedestrian collision. My TV Charleston

- ➤ The Charleston Police Department reported a 10.7% drop in overall crime in 2024 with homicides falling 47.4% and major offenses like robberies, sex offenses, burglaries, and motor vehicle thefts declining while aggravated assaults and vehicle thefts slightly increased, local patrol on Daniel Island logged fewer property crimes than city averages and traffic safety improved as deadly crashes dropped 52%—the department also added 47 officers and expanded community programs. - ➤ The South Carolina Senate passed a bill Wednesday that will end Charleston County’s local school boards if Gov. McMaster signs it in. The change is expected to save about $500K for classroom use and make the school district work like others in the state. ABC 4 News

- ➤ Stingrays head coach Jared Nightingale was named the 2025 ECHL Coach of the Year when the league awarded him the John Brophy Award after he guided the team to a record-setting 52-15-5 season — achieving the best goal differential in the league. The award was announced Wednesday and Nightingale will now lead the team into the Kelly Cup Playoffs. ABC 4 News
- ➤ The Charleston RiverDogs clinched their first home win of the season with a 3-2 victory over the Hickory Crawdads on April 15 at Joseph P.
