  • Charleston International Airport launched its second international flight when BermudAir’s inaugural flight from Bermuda arrived on a 70-seat Embraer E175 jet completing a two-hour trip. The new weekly service operates on Saturdays and will offer more travel options for both business and leisure travelers.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Attorneys for Dylann Roof filed a motion to vacate his death sentence on April 17 in US District Court in Charleston—listing 18 claims that argue his trial violated his rights and led to his conviction for killing nine church members in 2015.  Count On 2
  • A jury began deliberating former deputy Emily Pelletier’s triple reckless homicide trial on April 21 after her speeding and failure to stop at a sign led to a fatal collision on Highway 17 that killed three women on May 8, 2022 and totaled a Toyota Camry; her defense said she followed protocol while responding to a broken-down motorist call+ the prosecution stated she was reckless+ the verdict now rests with the jurors.  The Post and Courier

  • North Charleston’s Performing Arts Center will host the 2025–26 Best of Broadway season featuring touring productions like The Sound of Music, The Wiz, Beauty and the Beast, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Chicago, and And Juliet, with Hamilton set to return next season. Season ticket renewals are available now and new tickets will go on sale on May 12 (at 10 a.m.).  The Post and Courier

  • Gas prices in South Carolina fell to $2.67 per gallon at the start of this week after a 4.9-cent drop in the last week—experts say further drops may slow as oil prices rise.  Live 5 News

  • Experts say that warmer winters have extended Charleston's freeze-free period by 32 days and led to a longer allergy season in the Lowcountry. Dry weather and stronger winds may extend the season another month—forcing many residents to seek extra allergy remedies.  ABC 4 News

  • Justin Thomas ended his three-year win drought with a playoff victory at the RBC Heritage in Hilton Head, sinking his longest putt on the final hole—recording his 16th career win and moving to No. 6 in the world rankings.
