ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters battled a structure fire on Johns Island on Wednesday night at Wine Road at about 10:05 p.m.—all residents safely evacuated from the home—and six people were displaced while one was treated for injuries with the Red Cross providing assistance.  ABC 4 News

CRIME NEWS

  • A man — Elliott Antoin Huggins — shot another person during a road rage incident near Ingleside Boulevard and Zeppelin Drive on April 24th and was arrested later that day after the victim died during emergency surgery, facing charges of murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime.  My TV Charleston
  • Charleston County detectives are asking for tips to solve a graduation party shooting that killed 20-year-old Keonna Brown on May 26th, 2024 around 1:04 a.m. in Ladson+ less than a dozen people have come forward despite over 100 guests attending.  Count On 2
  • Yesterday, prosecutors filed a response to Jamie Lee Komoroski’s request to reconsider her 25-year prison sentence for a DUI that resulted in Samantha Miller’s death—saying the penalty is within range and that her lawyer’s motion to adjust the sentence should be denied.  ABC 4 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Mise En Place Publishing of Charleston will launch the debut issue of its new literary journal Revisionist on April 30 — the imprint was founded in 2025 by Kate Connor Boyette, local graphic designer F. Scott Long and Philip Rhodes, formerly of Garden & Gun, and has shifted from cookbook publishing to a platform for female voices. Revisionist will offer stories and art that speak to the unique experiences of women and will be available both locally and online.  Charleston City Paper
  • Locals can enjoy several festivals this weekend starting with the Black Food Truck Festival at Exchange Park, where a soiree is held today at the International African American Museum at 7 p.m.; additional events include the Charleston Jazz Festival reception at Bodega and the High Water Festival at Riverfront Park on Saturday and Sunday - while Art Charleston at the Gibbes Museum and the Blessing of the Fleet at Memorial Waterfront Park offer more local celebrations.  The Post and Courier

  • The owners of Fairfield Plantation permanently donated an extra 254 acres along U.S. Hwy 17 to Lowcountry Land Trust — this expands the conserved area to 734 acres and safeguards vital wetlands, wildlife, and scenic lands in the Santee Delta.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials in Charleston are seeking to take over about a half-mile of King Street from Line Street to John Street so they can better control traffic and parking for local businesses—this plan passed a city committee vote Tuesday and will be considered by city council next month in three readings.  My TV Charleston
  • Federal rental assistance funds are in jeopardy if Congress does not re-fund key HUD programs — over 100,000 South Carolinians may face housing insecurity by 2026. Programs like Housing Choice Voucher and Emergency Housing Voucher provide help to low-income families and abuse survivors — cuts could reverse progress in preventing homelessness.  South Carolina ETV

HEALTH NEWS

  • MUSC plans a new cancer hospital in downtown Charleston on Sabin Street next to the Rutledge Tower to address rising local cancer cases and to bring all patient services under one roof. A feasibility study will be completed in three to six months and MUSC will apply for top-tier NCI certification by 2028—ensuring advanced care is available in state.  Charleston City Paper
