- ➤ Over 400 racers took part in the 10th annual Race4Wanza Doughnut Dash 5K early Saturday morning in Charleston to honor Tywanza Sanders, a victim of the 2015 Mother Emanuel AME Church tragedy, while organizers like Dominique Gray said the race turns deep loss into a celebration of his life — marking a victory for the community. - ➤ On April 25 in Charleston County, a box truck struck a pedestrian near Charles Towne Landing and minutes later a vehicle hit a bicyclist near Eagle Drive—both victims died at the scenes and police are investigating. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Charleston police investigated a fatal collision downtown Saturday evening on Meeting Street near Mary Street—Meeting Street between Mary and Spring Streets was closed as officers worked the scene—while details remain under review. Count On 2

- ➤ On Saturday, the Most Rev. Jacques Fabre-Jeune blessed Mepkin Abbey’s new Meditation Garden of Truth and Reconciliation, honoring enslaved Africans buried near the Laurens family cemetery—possibly including George Laurens. More than 80 people attended the ceremony, which ended with the singing of Lift Every Voice and Sing as community leaders acknowledged a challenging past. Charleston City Paper

- ➤ At James Island County Park Saturday morning, survivors, friends and caregivers walked in the PanCAN Purple Stride and raised over $160,000, beating their goal to fund free patient services, molecular testing and research.
