BUSINESS NEWS

  • American Airlines will expand its service from Charleston International to New York LaGuardia with twice daily flights starting Sept. 3 and three daily flights beginning Nov. 3, using Embraer E170 and E175 aircraft — the schedule change is set to offer more travel options for Lowcountry passengers.  My TV Charleston

CRIME NEWS

  • Justin Collin Adams was arrested after he hit two children and an adult near Sunrise Presbyterian Church on Sullivan's Island Thursday and fled the scene before being found on a boat—he now faces three counts of attempted murder and one charge of assault and battery in the first degree.  ABC 4 News
  • A 23-year-old Charleston man was arrested on Thursday and charged with murder and possession of a firearm in connection with a Johnson Street shooting that took the life of 24-year-old Briana Cason on April 27—his charges were upgraded after he was first taken in for assault and battery.  My TV Charleston
  • The Charleston Police Department charged Tyris Asbury with assault and battery and Kenneth Da’Quan Gilliard with murder and a firearm violation in connection with Briana Cason’s fatal shooting on April 27 near Johnson Street (8:30 p.m.) and both suspects are in custody (at the Al Cannon Detention Center).  City of Charleston

CULTURE NEWS

  • Ken Burns will visit Charleston on May 14 to promote his six-part docuseries 'The American Revolution' with a press conference at 11 a.m. at The Cistern, followed by a film screening and historian discussion at 7 p.m. at Sottile Theatre; students from two local schools will join him for a tour of Marion Square before the screening—highlighting South Carolina’s role in the Revolution.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Developers at Morrison Yard finished a new stair entrance to the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on May 1 following calls for safer access after two pedestrian deaths last year—this $1.5 million project also added a bike tread along the 52 steps, with delays caused by a supply-chain issue—making it easier for both pedestrians and cyclists.  The Post and Courier

  • Former Stingrays head coach Spencer Carbery was named one of three finalists for the NHL's Jack Adams Award on Friday—he now leads the Capitals with a strong record and a playoff series win since 2018 as they prepare to face the Carolina Hurricanes in the next round.  ABC 4 News
