- ➤ On Friday, first responders and law enforcement hosted Prom Promise at Cane Bay High School to show students the dangers of distracted and impaired driving ahead of prom—using fire trucks, ambulances and helicopters to simulate a severe crash—and this was the first reenactment since 2023. - ➤ North Charleston police arrested 24-year-old Kayonna Duncan at ICON @ Park Circle apartments on May 8 after she intentionally rammed her car into a man's vehicle—damaging the apartment gate by nearly $3,000—before taking her into custody. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Charleston church leaders celebrated the election of Cardinal Robert Prevost—69—from Chicago as he was chosen the first American pope and took the name Pope Leo XIV on Thursday. - ➤ Starting May 12, the City of Charleston launches a pilot program to give Peninsula hospitality workers free parking permits as business owners apply for five permits to be used starting June 1.
