- ➤ Charleston saw the family of former Boeing quality control manager — John Barnett — settle a wrongful death lawsuit after he killed himself on March 9, 2024 during deposition questions on alleged jumbo jet defects. The court filing announced Monday states the case may be reopened if the settlement is not finalized within 60 days. ABC 4 News

- ➤ Michael Colucci, the former Summerville jeweler accused of killing his wife in 2015 who faced a mistrial in December 2018, will go to retrial on June 16 in Berkeley County—officials say scheduling issues and the trial's potential length led to its delay. Count On 2

- ➤ Explore Charleston released a report showing that tourism in Charleston generated a record $14.03 billion in economic impact in 2024, up 7% from the previous year, with tourism accounting for 23.5% of local sales and employing 54,900 people. The report from the College of Charleston’s Office of Tourism Analysis noted a 1.2% rise in visitors and a 5.5% increase in average spending per trip — figures that underscore the industry’s solid performance — as the city builds on its record-setting year. - ➤ Today, the Charleston Metro Chamber launched the People First Scorecard — a new tool built with a $100K Truist grant to track progress in housing, workforce, childcare, and transit. The tool will guide policy and business choices to boost regional growth. Charleston Regional Business Journal
- ➤ On Monday, May 12th, the S.C. Transportation Infrastructure Bank Board voted unanimously to end the intergovernmental agreement between Charleston County and the state for extending the Mark Clark Expressway—Charleston County expects to receive several million dollars back from its $8.4 million contribution while the state holds on to the land purchased for the project at a cost of $41 million. - ➤ On Tuesday, May 13, the Northwood Civic League hosted a forum at 6:30 p.m. at the Northwood Estates Community Center for all seven candidates running for North Charleston City Council District 3, including Lou Baker, Stephanie Ganaway-Pasley, Demetria A. McNeil, John Peterson, Maurice Moe Ray, Donnie Singleton, and Travis Walthall. Early voting for City Council seats in districts 3 and 5 continued Tuesday—voters cast ballots until May 23 while the special election for district 5 is scheduled for May 27. ABC 4 News
