- ➤ Charleston Habitat for Humanity celebrated a major milestone on May 16 when it welcomed its 100th family into a new home in North Charleston. Denise Hinton and her daughter Brianna now have a safe place to call home—an anonymous donor contributed $220,000 to help build the house. My TV Charleston
- ➤ Today three of the county’s largest waterparks open in limited weekend hours—Splash Island in Mount Pleasant, Splash Zone on James Island, and Whirlin’ Waters in North Charleston—and the West County Aquatic Center in Hollywood also opens on weekends until daily hours begin May 30. They will operate from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. as the county kicks off the warm-weather season. Count On 2

- ➤ Charleston lawyer William 'Mullins' McLeod, a former gubernatorial candidate, was arrested on May 15th near the downtown Battery when officers found him in his underwear and yelling erratically—he now faces a public disorderly conduct charge. The Post and Courier

- ➤ A new 16—page guide has been published today to help locals plan for the Piccolo Spoleto Festival, which will begin May 23 and run until May 30— the guide details events at Circular Congregational Church and highlights local artist Arun Drummond’s work. Charleston City Paper
- ➤ The second annual Food & Wine Classic, hosted by Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure and Southern Living, will return this November in Charleston to offer more than 40 events such as cooking demos, tastings and panel discussions—opening with an Oyster Roast on Nov. 14 and a Southern Living Tailgate at The Dunlin—and includes Sea to Table workshops along the Ashley River. - ➤ Charleston’s event guide for May 15-24 shows that residents can enjoy a range of activities—from interactive museum programs such as the checkout challenge for young shoppers and Fossil Fridays at the Charleston Museum, to today’s James Island Wellness Festival at Point Break Coffee from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for $50—while later in the week the schedule features a bouquet-making tea party, a cultural gala with 1920s attire at IAAM, multiple music performances and new local dining options. - ➤ On Thursday, James Island held a memorial to honor Gabriel Seagraves, a teen who lost his life nearly 10 years ago when a speeding car hit him while skateboarding at a dangerous intersection along Fort Johnson Road. Officials will vote soon on renaming the intersection in his honor—while Charleston County works to improve auto-pedestrian safety in the area. Count On 2
