CRIME NEWS

  • Local personal injury attorney William Mullins McLeod Jr. was arrested last week for public disorderly conduct after he was seen downtown yelling in only his underwear and shoes+ police booked him at the Al Cannon Detention Center before releasing him on bond Friday.  My TV Charleston
  • Dorchester County deputies arrested two men near the Summerville Walmart parking lot after receiving a tip on Saturday—23-year-old Maxim Tony Iusico faced charges for trafficking methamphetamine, fentanyl and weapon possession while 48-year-old David Charles Lord Jr. was charged with trafficking methamphetamine and fentanyl.  ABC 4 News
  • A struggle for control of a handgun between an off-duty Mount Pleasant officer and her partner ended in a domestic shooting outside the North Charleston Aquatics Center on May 18 around 2 a.m., police said, with the male partner taken to a local hospital and the officer placed on paid administrative leave (details remain under investigation).  The Post and Courier

  • The Charleston County School Board approved a $1.76 billion 2025-2026 budget on Monday by an 8-1 vote that raises teacher salaries by $4,000 and gives non-teachers a 3% raise, ensuring the operating fund remains balanced without tax hikes — board members expect the budget to boost teacher retention and recruitment.  ABC 4 News

  • In May 1791, President Washington visited Charleston and was greeted with cheers, cannon fire, and toasts—each signal of a warm welcome during his week-long stay.   • Charleston's Middleton Group is redesigning Ashley Landing in West Ashley, planning to construct nine new single-story buildings that mix Lowcountry style with modern finishes.
