COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday, local nonprofit Charleston Moves hosted the 2025 Ride of Silence to remember bicyclists and pedestrians injured or killed on the road, following a designated route that highlighted dangerous spots like Morrison Drive where fatal accidents occurred. City officials and local riders stressed the need for better bike lanes and safety improvements—citing projects such as the new Ashley River Crossing lane—to reduce future risks.  My TV Charleston
  • Red Top Park in Charleston, a historic site founded by descendants of enslaved people, is now permanently protected under a land trust and community partnership. Funding from the Charleston County Greenbelt Program and South Carolina Conservation Bank will keep the park open for public access and historical interpretation.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
  • Earlier this month, Make-A-Wish South Carolina honored its 2025 W.I.S.H. Society honorees at an awards brunch—raising a Lowcountry record of $125,000 to support children with critical illnesses. CRIME NEWS

  • Charleston police are asking for help to identify a suspect in a sexual assault that occurred at the Bridgeview Apartment complex on North Romney Street on April 23; the suspect (described as having an average build, a mustache, dreadlocks and a neck tattoo) is being sought and anyone with information is urged to call 843-720-2422.  ABC 4 News
  • Cassius Grays, 19, was fatally shot on Linsley Drive in North Charleston Monday at about 3:07 p.m.—The Charleston County Coroner’s Office identified him and the Sheriff's Office is investigating the case.  ABC 4 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charleston County held an announcement yesterday at the Canopy on Ashley apartments + opened the second round of applications for its Affordable Housing Land Acquisition Grant Program, offering $1.4 million in rescue funds to help secure land for projects that may add 32 attainable rental units and 12 attainable homeowner units, with applications due by June 23.  ABC 4 News

  • On Wednesday, May 21, MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital honored 98 emergency responders from Charleston, Colleton, Berkeley, and Dorchester counties for their pediatric care during EMS Week—awarding them a Challenge Coin as a token of thanks.  My TV Charleston
