- ➤ Food insecurity in Charleston has increased as the rate rose from 11.2% to 12.3%, leaving over 5,000 residents without stable access to food. Local groups like Our Lady of Mercy Community Outreach and Meals on Wheels are struggling with higher costs and fewer funds, and planned cuts to food programs will worsen the problem—local leaders urge joint action to support those in need. - ➤ On May 29, North Charleston city leaders broke ground on a renovated community center in Union Heights—replacing the old Gethsemani building with a modern facility.
