- ➤ Charleston Area Therapeutic Riding, located on a 43-acre campus on Johns Island, offers equine-assisted therapy that helps children with special needs, veterans with PTSD, and seniors with dementia build trust and confidence—using nationally certified instructors and carefully trained horses. Founded in 1991 and now serving nearly 200 individuals a year, the nonprofit partners with local schools and community groups and will benefit from donations at an upcoming give back night at Minero Mexican Grill on Johns Island on June 19th. - ➤ Charleston Animal Society, Berkeley Animal Center and Dorchester Paws are joining forces with Lowcountry Paws Unite to ease overcrowding by lowering adoption fees and encouraging adoptions for over 2,200 animals — an effort meant to save more lives. - ➤ Two men were arrested after robbing a victim at gunpoint when the victim met them to purchase a vehicle on Thursday morning in North Charleston+ authorities say one suspect was caught near Rivers Ave while the other was found at the Economy Inn and Suites. Count On 2
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Archaeologists and College of Charleston students have been excavating the garden at the 253-year-old Heyward-Washington House to uncover artifacts that span over 300 years of Charleston history—findings that may shed light on early gunsmith operations and everyday life. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Harvard settled a lawsuit filed by Tamara Lanier and agreed to give 15 daguerreotypes, including images of enslaved people like Renty and Delia from South Carolina, to the International African American Museum (IAAM). The museum said it will soon plan a homegoing ceremony and digital display to honor these 19th-century artifacts. Charleston City Paper
- ➤ Shelby Means, a singer and bassist from Charleston, will debut her self-titled solo album on June 7 at Pour House on James Island. She will perform with producer Maya de Vitry and Joel Timmons—marking her first solo album after playing with famous bands. Charleston City Paper

- ➤ Residents on Daniel Island opposed a plan to cut 24 big trees that many say help the island look and support wildlife. The Nowell Creek Village developer pulled the request from the city board’s agenda on June 4 — the plan may be brought up again later. Count On 2
