ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A late-night auto-pedestrian crash in North Charleston left one person dead (police said) as officials investigated the scene.  Live 5 News

CRIME NEWS

  • Charleston police said an argument between relatives escalated into a fatal shooting on James Island on June 8 at the intersection of Ferguson Road and Danny Street, charging 30-year-old Raymundo Markal Vasquez with murder — his bond was denied.  The Post and Courier
  • Johnny Kaneshi Mesa Jr. (53) led North Charleston officers on a chase that lasted one hour along Hwy 78 after he stole a Komatsu track hoe and crashed it into Los Pinos Tienda Mexicana (damage was estimated at $100,000) before a K-9 unit caught him at the county fairgrounds.  The Post and Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Park Circle Pride will light up North Charleston for Pride Month from Thursday through Sunday evening—organizers plan 55 events including drag brunches, a dog show and street vendor offerings. Producer Simon Cantlon said the celebration will kick off on Thursday with 14 events and tomorrow will feature activities running until 10 p.m.  ABC 4 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charleston County leaders will vote today on how to spend a $9.4 million settlement from Airbnb, splitting funds among housing, drainage, public works, and a new $2.5 million disaster response reserve (designed to boost local emergency preparedness).  ABC 4 News
  • State Senator Wes Climer of Rock Hill filed a lawsuit on Monday asking South Carolina's highest court to block a $2,500 monthly raise voted on by legislators that is set to start on July 1+ he and Carol Herring argue the raise violates the state constitution by improperly increasing per diem payments. The court agreed to fast-track the case so a decision can be made before the payments begin.  My TV Charleston

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A recent study by Retirement Living ranked Summerville among the top places for retirees by examining housing costs, sales tax, and senior poverty rates. Mayor Russ Touchberry said the city’s safe neighborhoods and affordable housing—coupled with a vibrant downtown—make it a promising spot for seniors to build connections.  ABC 4 News

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • SeamonWhiteside, a local engineering and design firm, bought a 30,000-square-foot office building at 501 Wando Park Blvd. for $4.5M, with the sale arranged by Avison Young for Long Point Center LLC. The firm will keep about 20,000 square feet as its headquarters — a move that shows its growth plans in a tight market.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
