  • Charleston will honor the nine lives lost nearly 10 years ago at Mother Emanuel AME Church with a forum on racial justice Tuesday at 7 p.m. at the Charleston Music Hall—local community and government leaders will discuss challenges like policing and housing, inviting the public to join the conversation.  My TV Charleston
  • The Town of Mount Pleasant opened its expanded Memorial Waterfront Park on June 4 under the Ravenel Bridge at 99 Harry M. Hallman Jr. Blvd and held a rescheduled celebration on Tuesday that featured a ribbon-cutting, free snow cones, summer-themed giveaways, sports events from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. + family-friendly activities with special guests.  Count On 2
  • On Tuesday, June 20, Charleston will host a forum to honor the nine victims of the Mother Emanuel Church shooting nearly ten years ago. The event will feature two panel discussions with community leaders + elected officials and tickets are free + available via registration at Charleston Music Hall.  ABC 4 News

  • A new study from the Southern Shrimp Alliance and SeaD Consulting found that most Charleston restaurants claiming to serve local shrimp are offering imported shrimp instead. The report tested 44 restaurants and verified that only four serve shrimp caught locally — a result that raises concerns for consumers and local seafood supporters.  Count On 2

CRIME NEWS

  • A man with a history of violent crimes was sentenced Tuesday to life in prison without parole for murdering a North Charleston motel owner in 2022—surveillance footage, physical evidence, and his own statements linked Darnell Dwayne Brown to the crime.  Count On 2
  • Seven years after Kurt Wendell Melton was shot on June 10, 2018, Charleston deputies still search for the killer after finding his body near 1146 Greenhill Road on James Island around 11 p.m.—they ask anyone with tips to call Detective Barry Goldstein at 843-554-2241.  ABC 4 News
  • Charleston County deputies have renewed their appeal for leads in the 2018 gun killing of Kurt Wendell Melton, 29, who was found at 1146 Greenhill Road on James Island after deputies responded around 11 p.m.—anyone with information is asked to contact Detective Barry Goldstein.  My TV Charleston
