  • The International African American Museum in Charleston hosted its Juneteenth celebration on June 19, where about 1,000 visitors enjoyed free admission, food trucks & live performances as they celebrated heritage, culture and healing. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina Aquarium’s SeaRise Citizen Project lets any cell phone user capture flood photos to create data, and Beaufort County approved an MOU on June 16 to add seven free signs at vulnerable sites — county staff will install them after council approval. The program has aided safety measures in Folly Beach — linking flood photos to NOAA buoys for real-time readings.  The Post and Courier

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Gov. Henry McMaster signed a new energy law more than a month ago to boost state power production by letting Dominion Energy and Santee Cooper build a 2,000-megawatt natural gas plant in rural Colleton County and to allow utilities to appeal Public Service Commission decisions directly to the state Supreme Court (the law also lets companies request smaller, annual rate increases to help cover rising costs).  Charleston City Paper
