- ➤ Summerville man William Jerod Grant, 41, pleaded guilty yesterday to reckless vehicular homicide that killed teenager Samantha Hines in 2022 along Highway 78 — he also pleaded guilty to first-degree domestic violence in a separate case — and will begin a 10-year prison term. - ➤ Trader, the ex-girlfriend and alleged getaway driver for the man accused of fatally shooting West Ashley salon artist Janet Crouch on May 11, was denied bond today by Charleston County Circuit Court after Assistant Solicitor Chad Simpson said she helped her boyfriend flee the scene. - ➤ Fort Moultrie is preparing for the 249th Carolina Day celebration to honor the 1776 Revolutionary War victory on Sullivan's Island—park ranger Christopher Reid said the event will include live musket demonstrations, reenactments and history lessons with nearly 1,000 attendees expected. The site fee will be waived and the flag raising is scheduled for 10 a.m. tomorrow as first responders prepare for the large crowd amid a heat wave. Count On 2

- ➤ South Carolina Seven is starting a 30-day expedition that takes locals hiking, kayaking, and cleaning up trails to restore nature—organizers said the event will include tree planting and help fix damage from Hurricane Helene. On July 24th, the group will join local leaders for a 9:00 a.m. hike on Ravenel Bridge at Mount Pleasant Waterfront park. ABC 4 News

- ➤ The US Army Corps of Engineers and the City of Charleston have partnered to upgrade stormwater systems downtown and in West Ashley—efforts that will repair the historic brick drainage system and reduce flooding risks. The downtown project will receive $7.5 million while additional funds will support long-term flood mitigation in vulnerable areas. ABC 4 News

- ➤ On Thursday, Ronald McDonald House Charities broke ground on a five-story expansion in downtown Charleston to add 46 new bedrooms, kitchenettes on every floor, classrooms and quiet spaces for families receiving care at MUSC. The Expanding Hope project will finish construction in 16 months and aims to serve more families after over 450 were turned away in 2024 — a step to help those traveling from across the southeast.
