  • A Mount Pleasant mother, Christie Oates, is helping families as her Texas camp community mourns deadly flooding—her children narrowly missed the tragedy by returning home days before and now she is organizing a benefit concert to aid those affected in Kerr County.  ABC 4 News
  • Jean’s Angels is a non-profit founded by Katrina Carpenter in Moncks Corner and is marking its 10th year of helping local families. The group received new machinery from local sponsors — including Grace Alliance Church and Southeast Industrial Equipment — to move donated goods and will use the equipment to expand outreach to nearby communities.  ABC 4 News

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 1, 2025, Moncks Corner grandmother Anne Lachell Sellers, 53, was arrested and charged with unlawful conduct for allowing her 12-year-old granddaughter to swim roughly one mile through alligator-infested waters near Bushy Park Boat Landing—emergency crews later rescued the injured child, and Sellers faced a $50,000 bond condition.  ABC 4 News

  • Beyond Exhibitions launches an immersive art exhibit that showcases works by Van Gogh & Monet at Festival Hall in Charleston, and the experience lasts roughly 90 minutes while running today through August 31. Select mornings include a special toddler time designed for families.  Count On 2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson warned in a Tuesday press conference that criminals in prison are using hidden cellphones to run organized crime from behind bars—he urged Congress and the FCC to let states block phone signals in prisons to stop crimes such as the McCoy brothers’ meth trafficking ring.  Count On 2
  • Charleston International Airport will soon expand with a new West Gate concourse that adds five gates and boosts capacity by roughly 20—25% while a six-level parking garage with 7,500 spaces is under construction as part of a 20-year plan to meet growing travel needs. A new five-lane connector road approved by the Federal Highway Administration will begin construction in the third quarter of 2026 to ease traffic congestion.  Charleston City Paper
  • North Charleston Police officers Pfc. Searles and Ptl. Kenowski were honored for saving a man’s life after they responded to a report of a man lying on the tracks behind a Rivers Avenue business on May 7—officials said their quick action pulled him safely off as a train approached.  Count On 2

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Charleston faces a shortage of affordable housing with about 5,800 units available against a goal of over 15,000 and waitlists nearing 3,000 residents — local agencies and nonprofits are planning seven projects to add 1,500 units and are encouraging developers with tax incentives. The city continues to struggle as population growth keeps demand high and many residents wait for more housing options.  Charleston City Paper
