  • Town officials in Andrews cut off water for residents of the Black River Mobile Home Community after claiming landlord Timothy Woodbridge owed about $155,000 in unpaid bills. Neighbors and local agencies are helping fill the gap while Woodbridge has filed a lawsuit seeking an injunction to stop more shutoffs.  The Post and Courier

BUSINESS NEWS

  • iSmash, a rage room brand from New York, signed a lease for its first South Carolina location on James Island — it will offer axe throwing, splatter paint sessions and smash experiences with packages for individuals and groups of up to 15 people. Local owner Amanda Edwards will launch the business late August — with splatter paint open to all ages older than 3 and rage room sessions for those aged 8 and up.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
  • Camp Hall Commerce Park in Moncks Corner was named the nation’s top industrial park by Business Facilities, with a projected $7.9 billion economic impact for South Carolina by 2035 and 65% of its land preserved for nature + it hosts major projects from Volvo Cars USA and Redwood Materials.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

  • Moncks Corner police are investigating a death at a convenience store—authorities are reviewing evidence and interviewing witnesses.  Live 5 News
  • A fatal two-vehicle collision occurred Friday morning on Cross County Road — near Design Street — and North Charleston Police Department is investigating it — drivers are advised to use alternate routes —.  ABC 4 News
  • A Charleston County man was accused of kidnapping and assaulting a woman in a violent dispute—police are investigating the incident.  Live 5 News

CULTURE NEWS

  • Charleston artists Eric Carnahan, Fontaine Weyman, and Gino Castillo are battling serious illnesses while continuing to create influential art. Carnahan, who has multiple myeloma and kidney failure, is planning a cancer memorial park—Weyman faces long-term effects from Lyme disease and Castillo, recovering from leukemia and a partial amputation, is studying sound healing and recording new music.  The Post and Courier

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Education announced today that K-12 students will soon learn about influential state leaders in a new Palmetto Pioneers’ Series + the initiative is part of the Palmetto Civics Project. The curriculum will include figures such as Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune to inspire students ahead of America’s 250th birthday.  Count On 2

  • Safety upgrades for Ashley Phosphate Road between Rivers Avenue and Dorchester Road will begin Monday—July 14 to protect pedestrians by reducing crash-prone areas, with a $10.2 million project delayed for needed public input. Local leaders and a nonprofit worked together, and the construction will take about 10 months to complete.  My TV Charleston
  • State officials marked nearly 170,000 registered voters as inactive after they did not return address confirmation cards sent in April. Inactive voters remain eligible to vote but must verify their address before future elections and will be removed after two cycles if they do not update their information.  Charleston City Paper
