  • Members of the Charleston Fire Department are holding a 24‑hour vigil at the Charleston 9 Memorial — honoring the nine brave firefighters who lost their lives in a 2007 fire — to pay tribute to their sacrifice.  FOX Charleston

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A serious crash on the Don Holt Bridge closed the eastbound lanes of I-526 Saturday morning — police rerouted traffic via the Virginia Avenue exit.  ABC 4 News
  • Emergency crews responded to a serious crash on I-526 at the Don Holt Bridge at 9:30 a.m. on July 12 and closed all eastbound lanes so police could re-route traffic to the Virginia Avenue exit (vehicles were turned around on the bridge).  Count On 2

CRIME NEWS

  • Charleston police arrested Johnathan Dais, a county employee, outside the West Ashley Inn after months of investigation revealed he allegedly forced women into prostitution through a sex trafficking ring — he has been charged with assault, aggravated prostitution, and sex trafficking.  The Post and Courier
  • On Saturday around 2 p.m., sheriff’s deputies responded to a shooting at Food Lion on Ashley Phosphate Road and treated a juvenile with gunshot wounds before transporting them to a local hospital.  Count On 2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A national research group released a report on water quality at local beaches that found many sites exceeded the safety threshold for bacteria last year. The report noted that Sullivan's Island may be unsafe for swimming even though state officials say its water meets a stricter local standard—experts urge upgrades to sewer systems and proper pet waste cleanup to lower health risks.  ABC 4 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • After the I-526 extension project was cancelled, Charleston County said it expects to recover several million dollars of its $8.4 million investment — funds that will be used for future road improvements — though no official reimbursement figure has been confirmed by SCDOT.  FOX Charleston
  • South Carolina’s highest court will hear arguments this week on whether current legislative district lines break the state constitution. The decision could change future elections and affect how voting boundaries are drawn—potentially reshaping political maps.  FOX Charleston
  • Candidates from both parties are visiting South Carolina to build early support for a potential 2028 White House run—California Gov. Gavin Newsom recently toured rural areas while Kentucky Gov.
