  • Officer Jonathan Donnelly received a kidney from Lindsey Perry on February 6 and returned to patrol after a recovery lasting six weeks—Perry, the wife of NCPD Assistant Chief Scott Perry, said her selfless act saved his life and renewed his duty. Donnelly now awaits a pancreas transplant as he continues serving the community.  My TV Charleston

  • North Charleston police closed a segment of US 52 Connector late Thursday — trees fell on the roadway and drivers are urged to use Rivers Avenue to Ashley Phosphate Road as an alternative route.  Count On 2

  • Volvo will begin building its best-selling XC60 SUV at the Ridgeville plant by late 2026 — a move that will boost U.S. manufacturing and support American jobs. The plant, which already assembles the fully electric EX90 and Polestar 3 SUVs, has received a $1.3 billion upgrade — paving the way for the new production line.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Kevin S. Murdock, former CEO of now-defunct Premier Medical, Inc., agreed to a $27.5 million consent judgment to settle allegations of violating the False Claims Act—accusing him of paying illegal kickbacks for cancer genetic tests targeting Medicaid beneficiaries in Colorado, Georgia, and South Carolina—just one day before his trial was set to begin.  My TV Charleston
  • North Charleston police are searching for a missing 16-year-old—authorities are reviewing local leads to locate the teen who reportedly disappeared earlier today.  Live 5 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The VA began constructing a specialty care clinic on July 16 at Joint Base Charleston to expand primary care, mental health and chronic care services for Lowcountry veterans. The project is built in partnership with the U.S. Army Corps and the DOD – it is expected to improve care access for veterans.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
  • Crews broke ground at 9 a.m. Thursday on a new fire and EMS station in Summers Corner (1405 Clay Field Trial) with several county council members and first responders present for a project that had been in the works for over five years.  Count On 2
  • Charleston Water System plans a 3% water rate increase for customers in the City starting January 1st, 2026 to cover the cost of relocating 21 miles of century-old pipes due to new transit projects—adding to an already approved 7% raise. Officials estimate a total 10% rate jump with $64 million set aside for the work, and the county may cover 4% of the costs.  Count On 2
