  • Kenneth Evans, a 58-year-old from Ladson, was recovered from Lake Moultrie on Sunday afternoon after a possible drowning+an autopsy will be conducted later to determine his cause of death while county officials and the Department of Natural Resources investigate the incident.  Count On 2

  • Bahrain-based Gulf Air ordered 12 Boeing 787 Dreamliners with an option for six more on July 17 in a ceremony featuring Boeing and government officials—this deal supports 30,000 U.S. jobs and will help grow the airline’s long-haul services built in North Charleston.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

  • Police in North Charleston are investigating a fatal shooting that left one person dead—official details remain limited as the investigation continues.  Live 5 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Holy City Linen is spending $4.4M to add new equipment at its North Charleston facility at 1275 Remount Road to expand operations. The expansion will boost the company's capacity to process 30 million pounds of laundry annually—supporting local hotels and businesses in the growing hospitality industry.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A railroad crossing on Ashley Phosphate Road in North Charleston will close from 9 a.m. on July 31 through 5 p.m. on August 1 for emergency track repairs—drivers should plan alternate routes due to expected heavy traffic.  ABC 4 News
  • On Monday evening, 50501 hosted a senatorial candidate forum at Lincolnville Town Hall starting at 6:30 p.m.—79 of 100 seats were filled—and candidates including Brandon Brown, Christopher Giracello, Dr. Annie Andrews, Catherine Fleming Bruce, Kyle Freeman, and Dr. Kasie Whitener answered community-submitted questions on healthcare, the economy, and ICE.  ABC 4 News
  • Santee Cooper has temporarily closed lanes on Johns Island near 950 Brownswood Rd between Old Pond Road and Fickling Hill Road—crews are working from July 21 through Aug 2 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m.—to upgrade its transmission system; drivers are advised to use caution and consider alternate routes to avoid traffic delays.  ABC 4 News
  • Federal budget cuts may cost SCETV up to $3.1 million as funding to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is reduced. The network said it uses funds from the General Assembly and its endowment to protect its future—ensuring it continues to serve the community with local public media services.  Charleston City Paper
  • Folly Beach construction crews are set to begin underground work on the east side as part of the Center Street drainage project, and residents face temporary water and utility service impacts on 8th Street E and the first block of East Cooper Avenue from July 21-25. The project started this spring and is funded by the South Carolina Infrastructure Improvement Program—larger stormwater pipes, rain gardens and permeable parking spots will be added to ease frequent flooding and it is expected to be complete by June 2026.  Count On 2
