- ➤ Charleston County marked 35 years since the Americans with Disabilities Act passed at an event at Park Circle Community Building in North Charleston. Local leaders praised progress in hiring people with disabilities—especially by Palmetto Goodwill—and said more work is needed to improve accessible transportation. Count On 2
- ➤ Charleston Animal Society is caring for nearly 1,000 kittens at its two campuses as warm weather and unspayed strays extend kitten season and push the shelter past capacity, leaving staff short on space, food, and medicine. The shelter is launching a 'Stronger Together' campaign spanning 10 days—aiming for over 200 adoptions—and asks the community for help with emergency fostering and donations. ABC 4 News
- ➤ The Daniel Island Library Society has rebranded from Friends of the Daniel Island Library to gain more freedom to support local reading programs and boost library access on the island and in Cainhoy. - ➤ The Charleston Police Department is asking for help finding 14-year-old Isabelle Nelson, a runaway from her West Ashley home who was last seen on July 21 between 9:00 and 10:00 p.m. wearing a gray baggy sweatshirt and burgundy sweatpants—she is a white female about 5’1” tall and 100 pounds with black hair, hazel eyes, and a nose piercing. - ➤ The Association of African American Museums conference began Wednesday in North Charleston to focus on protecting African American history in honor of the Voting Rights Act anniversary — museum leaders shared their work. Organizers say the event is growing from last year's record attendance — discussions include challenges from federal funding cuts. Count On 2
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Folly Beach's city report shows that its one-year renourishment project only lost about 20% of the sand compared to nearly half lost in previous efforts—helping to keep the coast stronger during hurricane season.
