  • The owners of Barrelli Barber in Mount Pleasant are rebuilding their shop after a truck crashed through its storefront—police cited the driver for driving under suspension—and have moved staff and customers to three nearby locations while planning to reopen in time for back-to-school haircuts.  My TV Charleston

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A bicyclist died after being struck by a Chevrolet sedan on Dorchester Road near Sawmill Court at around 11 p.m. Thursday night, and the driver was not injured while the highway patrol investigated the crash.  Count On 2
  • Emergency crews have responded to a hazardous material spill on Highway 52 in St. Stephen — a container emitting acid fumes has drawn teams from North Berkeley Fire Department, Berkeley County Emergency Management and EMS, Goose Creek City Fire Department, and the Berkeley County Sheriff's Office.  ABC 4 News

CRIME NEWS

  • State law enforcement officials charged Dorchester County man Davis Juan Bryant with a weapons violation after he pointed his 9mm handgun at a North Charleston officer during an officer-involved shooting at a Walmart on July 14—surveillance cameras captured the incident and Bryant faces charges for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and for pointing a firearm at a person.  Count On 2
  • A North Carolina man accused of murdering his wife was arrested in Georgetown County when a deputy stopped his car on U.S. Highway 17 near Vanderbilt Boulevard on July 24 at 9:30 p.m.—he is held for North Carolina authorities.  The Post and Courier

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Angel Oak Preserve in Charleston was named to the Old-Growth Forest Network — the first local site to earn this honor — which shows its cultural and ecological importance. The 44-acre preserve will start development in 2026 with Lowcountry Land Trust, the City of Charleston and local partners.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Transportation Commission approved $200M in new funding that brings total bridge program funding to $439M for repairing, preserving and replacing aging bridges statewide. The program has 416 projects in progress and will add 114 more as part of a 10-year plan—targeting 530 bridges.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
