  • High heat in the upper 90s has forced Palmetto Carriage Works to halt tours in Charleston—staff keep horses indoors and use digital tools with extra water, fans, and shade to track their temperature. The city rule stops tours when the air temperature reaches 95 degrees or the heat index goes above 110.  Count On 2

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A driver died when his 2014 Nissan Maxima ran off Mallard Road near the Allspice Drive intersection late Saturday night around 10:20 p.m.—the vehicle hit a ditch, mailboxes, a culvert and a tree before overturning and the crash is under investigation.  Count On 2
  • Several fire crews battled a structure fire on Johns Island on July 26th — authorities are investigating the incident and its cause.  Live 5 News
  • An ambulance was involved in a head-on crash in Dorchester County that killed one person.  Live 5 News
  • Firefighters responded on Sunday to a structure fire near Fields Farm on River Road on Johns Island—partner agencies helped manage the incident.  Count On 2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lowcounty heat indices are expected to top 110 degrees and many residents will stay inside to avoid the heat. Locals are urged to keep cool by using fans, opening windows at night & hydrating frequently to dodge heat exhaustion.  Charleston City Paper
  • The Conservation Fund purchased 8,000 acres of timberland in Georgetown to support wildlife habitat, clean water, and recreation. The fund is working with the state to eventually open the land as a new state park—an effort that will protect local nature and boost economic opportunities.  Charleston City Paper
