- ➤ Charleston County police rescued five dogs from neglect at a Hollywood home last month after a call from a concerned citizen found the dogs emaciated and lacking food or water—owner Harry Brown Jr., 47, now faces five counts of animal cruelty while the dogs received treatment at Charleston Animal Society. - ➤ Folly Beach Taco Boy’s former barback said that after she asked HR to bar a bouncer from the restaurant, the company fired her and did not protect her from his threats—she alleged he assaulted her on July 3 and the lawsuit filed July 25 claims the firm broke federal civil rights laws while the bouncer now faces criminal charges. - ➤ North Charleston Police arrested two adults and one juvenile on July 21 for a strip mall shooting that injured multiple people after officers responded to reports of gunfire along Dorchester Road—Matthews and Thompson are in custody at Al Cannon Detention Center while the juvenile is held in juvenile detention. - ➤ Suspect Lavon Sharper, who was 17 when involved in a 2023 West Ashley playground shooting during a failed drug deal, is charged with murder, attempted murder, armed robbery, and weapon possession and was denied bond on July 29 due to concerns he remains a threat to the community.
