  • Mr. Freddie, the cherished custodian at Ashley River Creative Arts Elementary School, celebrated his American citizenship on July 30 after arriving from the Philippines eight years ago & working hard each day.   • Charleston is launching its annual Operation Move-Out initiative today to keep streets clean as College of Charleston students and other tenants move in and out. The event runs until Aug. 5 with a break (Aug. 3) and urges residents and property managers to follow disposal guidelines to reduce clutter.  ABC 4 News

  • A Wednesday morning crash involving a dump truck closed Highway 165 near Hyde Park Road in Ravenel—drivers were re-routed along Hyde Park Road to County Line Road as officials urged the use of alternate routes.  Count On 2

CRIME NEWS

  • On July 29, a 23-year-old man named Quintero Pedro Trejos crashed into a Charleston police cruiser—injuring two officers—and was arrested by the SC Highway Patrol on DUI charges before being released on a personal recognizance bond.  The Post and Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Daniel Island Historical Society is planning a memorial garden on Daniel Island to honor Martha Daniell Logan, an 18th-century horticultural pioneer and daughter of Governor Robert Daniell, that will feature a Serenity Path — Labyrinth and Colonial-era plants. The project has received support from local groups and is in talks with the City of Charleston and Daniel Island Town Association to select a site that promotes wellness and peace.  The Daniel Island News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charleston City Council awarded a $1.4 million contract to Blutide Marine Construction for building a new 1,100-foot pathway and 60-foot aluminum footbridge over Nowell Creek that will connect Daniel Island Drive and St. Thomas Island Drive—work will begin after a notice to proceed in early August and continue with fill placement in the marsh before engineers monitor consolidation for 12 months—completion is set for the end of 2026.  The Daniel Island News
