- ➤ Edisto Island residents now have fast internet after AT&T expanded fiber access on Thursday at King’s Market & over a thousand homes and businesses gained new connections to support work, school, and local commerce. CRIME NEWS
- ➤ On July 30, 2020, a Charleston judge sentenced North Charleston woman Nylesia Jahmera Mullins to 30 years in prison for voluntary manslaughter after she stabbed 32-year-old Christopher Terrell Brown 73 times—police later found his body wrapped in a trash bag at an apartment on Ashley Phosphate Road. - ➤ A ring camera recorded armed immigration officers detaining Franklin Arce in his North Charleston front yard Wednesday morning as he headed to work — his partner said officers did not show a warrant while using force and his family is now working with lawyers to challenge his detention as he remains in a federal center in Georgia. - ➤ On June 19, 2024 a construction worker was hacked to death with a machete at a North Charleston site off Palmetto Commerce Parkway after a dispute with coworker Tyrone Clayton Campbell— a wrongful death lawsuit filed on July 30 alleges that SHL Medical, Evans Contracting, and Flooring Services failed to secure the site. - ➤ A new Washington Café will open later this summer at 1111 McKnight Road in Mount Pleasant, blending coffee and art to honor local heritage (the owner was inspired by his family's stories of community strength and local activism). - ➤ The Athens, Ga. band Drive-By Truckers will play two shows at The Windjammer on Isle of Palms on Aug. 5 and 6. Doors will open at 5 p.m. and tickets will cost $40 if bought in advance or $50 at the door — the extra time between shows lets the band spend more time in town. Charleston City Paper
- ➤ Charleston's bakery scene is booming as local bakers like Welton's Tiny Bakeshop, Brandon’s Bread, Butter Half Bakery, and Grit Bakery offer handmade breads and pastries that blend old recipes with fresh ideas.
