- ➤ North Charleston Police Department is hosting its annual back-to-school event today from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Danny Jones Gym (1455 Monitor Street) where students from kindergarten through 12th grade in local school districts will receive free school supplies and backpacks (up to four per household) while supplies last. - ➤ Last Friday, a dump truck crashed into Jax Wax Charleston in Summerville—causing significant damage, injuring one woman, and leaving an employee without a car while the owner works with local officials to address speeding issues. ABC 4 News

- ➤ Twenty-five years ago, experts carefully raised the 40-foot Confederate H.L. Hunley—the Civil War submarine that sank the USS Housatonic off Charleston—using custom suction piles and divers; its eight crew members were later given a respectful burial that honored their legacy. Count On 2
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Charleston County schools are working to keep students safe as immigration worries grow — the schools plan to add extra security measures and staff training. Officials said the changes will help protect students in classrooms. Live 5 News

- ➤ South Carolina Community Loan Fund will begin its search for a new CEO as CEO Nate Barber and President Deborah McKetty plan to retire at the end of 2025. - ➤ The Tri-County Human Trafficking Task Force met in Charleston and urged lawmakers to consider bills that would train healthcare workers to spot signs of human trafficking and help police hold offenders accountable. - ➤ One person and one dog were exposed to rabies when a raccoon found near Dogwood and Becky Road in Charleston tested positive in the DPH lab on Aug. 5; the person was referred to a health care provider and the dog was quarantined—actions required under the Rabies Control Act—according to public health officials.
