- ➤ Rev. Joseph Darby Jr.—a respected Charleston pastor and civil rights leader and a 15-year survivor of colorectal cancer—died peacefully Friday night at age 74, a day after his birthday. He served in AME churches for nearly 50 years and held leadership roles with the NAACP, with a celebration of his life to be announced soon. Count On 2
