  • A co-defendant testified in court against a Charleston man accused of murdering his cousin.  Live 5 News
  • Charleston Police said five cases on Wednesday involved scammers tricking elderly residents into sending money over the phone and using Bitcoin ATMs — officials urge residents to hang up on suspicious calls and safeguard personal information.  ABC 4 News
  • Army Sergeant Quornelius Radford was held at Joint Base Charleston while he awaited pretrial after injuring five soldiers at Fort Stewart—he faces six counts of attempted murder, six counts of aggravated assault and a domestic violence charge.  ABC 4 News
  • Georgetown County officials apprehended 19-year-old Savion Grimmage after days on the run and he is accused of murder and weapon possession stemming from a Saturday shooting on Fuzzy Drive in the Oatland community—his bond hearing is set for Thursday morning at the county detention center.  My TV Charleston
  • Sullivan’s Island Police arrested Major P. Duke on Aug. 12 after they recovered his 2022 International Sleeper Cab that was found submerged in 14 feet of water at the boat landing on July 31—he faces charges including indecent exposure, littering, and malicious damage to property.  The Post and Courier

  • On Aug. 16, the Emory West Band will perform its first-ever show at Pawleys Island Tavern from 8-11:55 p.m. and Emory West from Conway will mix country hits, original songs, and classic tunes—promising a lively night for local fans.  The Post and Courier
  • Daniel Island resident Tess Ferm won Miss South Carolina’s Teen 2025 on June 28 in Columbia at Township Auditorium with a standout vocal performance of "Tomorrow" that earned her the overall talent award—she had placed runner-up last year and will now represent the state in Miss America’s Teen 2026 from Sept. 2-7.  The Daniel Island News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Charleston began restoring the historic smokestacks at the St. Julian Devine Community Center — a key landmark built in 1935 — to protect the Eastside skyline. The project, led by ICC and featuring upgrades like exterior stabilization and interior reinforcement, starts this week and will finish by early 2026.  City of Charleston

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Heart Association has set up free blood pressure machines at community spots such as libraries and YMCA centers to help Lowcountry residents monitor their health—this initiative builds on an existing program where library kits are already available for tracking blood pressure.  ABC 4 News
