- ➤ Century Aluminum Company announced a $50M investment to restart production at its Mount Holly smelter, creating 100 jobs with an average wage of $100K and boosting U.S. aluminum output by 10%. The smelter, now operating at 75% capacity, will reach full production by June 30 thanks to a long-term power contract. Charleston Regional Business Journal
- ➤ Soirée All Day, a local stationery business owned by Hollis Gallagher, was featured in an episode of The Summer I Turned Pretty that aired August 12 — the notecard set with a blue scallop wave design is shown as an engagement gift for the main character. - ➤ A South Carolina state trooper died nearly four days after he was hit by a box truck while on a traffic stop on I-26 in Orangeburg County—driver Anthony Aydlette, 45 from Hanahan was charged with driving under suspension and may face further charges as investigations continue. Live 5 News
- ➤ North Charleston police arrested 29-year-old Lewis Pinckney on Thursday — he faces trespassing and hit-and-run resulting in death charges after his truck fatally struck 47-year-old Herbert Dawson Jr. on Rivers Avenue near Piggly Wiggly Drive at about 1:45 a.m. on August 5. ABC 4 News
- ➤ A federal court denied Dylann Roof's petition for a new trial after his 2015 conviction for the church shooting, ruling his claim of bias was based on hearsay — he remains on federal death row with no new trial ordered. Count On 2
