  • North Charleston police said a man was accused of armed robbery after he hit a victim with a gun—investigation continues.  Live 5 News
  • South Carolina trooper Dennis Ricks died from injuries in a crash on Interstate 26, and his family is asking for donations through an online fundraiser to support his memorial—while the driver charged with driving under suspension remains in jail.  The Post and Courier
  • North Charleston police say that 20-year-old Zaquan Shaquez Jamison turned himself in Friday morning after exiting a residence on Evanston Boulevard and contacting dispatch to surrender on charges of attempted murder, possession of a weapon during a violent crime, and being armed and dangerous—he was taken first to the Al Cannon Detention Center before being transferred to Santee Police custody.  ABC 4 News

  • Artist Christine D. Johnson released the 2025 MOJA Arts Festival poster 'Life Witness—What is Your Story' this week as the festival will run from Sept. 25—Oct. 5 in the Holy City. The event will feature 19 shows that celebrate Black and Caribbean arts and culture.  Charleston City Paper
  • Netflix’s Outer Banks will film a black tie party on Wadmalaw Island from Aug. 20 to 22—casting calls include roles for servers, security, and attendants for luxury vehicles. Applicants must be 21 and own formal attire—pay is $132 for a 12 hour day or $150 for a 10 hour day for full attendance.  The Post and Courier

  • Malinda Schurlknight, a media specialist at William Reeves Elementary, was surprised when she received this year’s Palmetto State Teachers Association Classroom Grant on Thursday—she said the grant will buy two sets of novels for her book club with the announcement made by PTSA Director of Teacher Leadership Craig King.  Count On 2

  • Charleston kayakers should stay calm when they see an alligator in the water + state biologists report that these reptiles mostly avoid humans. If an alligator comes too close, use your paddle + gently tap its head to guide it away.  The Post and Courier
