- ➤ Charleston police officers spent the day packing 1,000 boxes of groceries and supplies for families in need in memory of former Chief Luther Reynolds—showing how they honor his legacy of service, and local agencies will soon deliver the boxes to those who need extra help. Count On 2
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ North Charleston police arrested 21 year old Kylil Smith on Aug. 15 for two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and a weapons charge tied to a 2023 Dorchester shooting that left two dead and one injured—he is held without bond and faces another pending murder charge. - ➤ Two vehicles in downtown Charleston were set on fire around 6:40 a.m. Saturday near Reid and Hanover Streets—police and firefighters are investigating the suspected arson with no arrests made. Count On 2
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ On Aug. 16, family, friends, and former players gathered at Joseph P. Riley, Jr. Park to unveil designs for a meditation garden honoring the Cannon Street All-Stars—a Black Little League team that won the state championship 70 years ago during segregation. The garden, planned for the northeast corner of Harmon Field at President and Fishburne streets, will feature benches, a large sculpture, and QR codes while the team is celebrated on the field today with special RiverDogs jerseys. - ➤ Charleston's first poet laureate, Marcus Amaker, said his best meal came from Odd Duck Market, his best show was the Godspeed You!
