  • Tammy Jenkins, a senior mobile home owner in West Ashley, faces homelessness as her limited social security income does not cover rising rent and needed repairs. She sought help from local agencies and her church, but her home remains in disrepair—leaving her with few options to keep it safe.  ABC 4 News
  • A local nonprofit organization gathered in Charleston and marched against youth violence to highlight the urgent need for safer neighborhoods. Authorities noted the demonstration aimed to urge local leaders to take action.  Live 5 News
  • On Aug. 14, Dorchester County opened Pine Trace Park in Summerville—repurposed from a planned 900-home area—and offered a six-acre fishing pond with kayak launches, walking trails, an inclusive playground and a disc golf course. The park is open daily from dawn to dusk and provides rental and reservation options while future plans include campgrounds and a BMX bike course.  The Post and Courier

  • The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will remove a 120-foot former Navy torpedo vessel this week from Bohicket Creek — the vessel poses environmental and navigational hazards near a private dock. Samuel Kodaimati, arrested in July under the abandoned boat law, faces charges with potential fines totaling $43,400 as cleanup efforts continue to protect local salt marshes.  Count On 2

  • The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources will remove a 120-foot US Navy torpedo boat from Bohicket Creek on Tuesday after its owner, Samuel Kodaimati, was arrested for abandoning it and allowing oil to leak near a private dock. This removal is a key step to protect local coastal areas — saving nearby salt marshes and waters.  ABC 4 News
  • The Charleston County Housing Authority is using a state grant to fund nearly $2 million in repairs at Joseph Floyd Manor — a 13-story high-rise for low-income seniors and disabled residents that had failed federal inspections in past years.
