COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local shelter Dorchester Paws is hosting adoption fee specials this week to help clear overcrowded kennels with nearly 400 animals available for adoption at a cost of $50 that covers vaccinations, microchipping and spaying and neutering services. Those who cannot adopt are invited to volunteer, donate or offer doggie dates while sponsors support the effort.  Count On 2

CRIME NEWS

  • Louis Cooper, 28, was arrested Tuesday evening in North Charleston for driving a stolen vehicle and possessing a stolen firearm—cameras spotted the car on Dorchester Road near Admiral Drive before police found it in a parking lot.  ABC 4 News
  • On Jan 29, a Berkeley County deputy fatally shot Nathan Johnson near Slow Hand Lane and Whitesville Road in a residential area — cameras including those from On Patrol: Live did not capture the incident and a SLED report found insufficient evidence to charge the officer.  The Post and Courier

CULTURE NEWS

  • Pre-sale tickets for the 2026 Charleston Wine + Food Festival’s Culinary Village became available on Aug. 21 and will remain so until Sept. 1 at 11:59 p.m. at The Citadel’s Johnson Hagood Stadium—visitors can select a new GA ticket that offers early access, a VIP lounge, and added perks, with General Admission starting at $185 and a special Locals Day on Mar. 8.  Count On 2

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The South Carolina Department of Transportation + Georgia DOT began an $825M project to widen I-95 and build a new Savannah River bridge by 2030, which will ease traffic and boost safety in the Lowcountry.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
  • South Carolina’s Department of Transportation worked to ease traffic congestion as growth from the Port of Charleston and aging roads added strain, and a special legislative committee met on August 20 to review modernizing plans. Secretary Justin Powell said projects include widening Interstates and rebuilding the I-526 corridor—while the committee will explore new funding options without a gas tax hike.  South Carolina ETV

  • Charleston artist Marcus Cripps made history when his design was chosen as both the People’s Choice winner and the official poster for the 2026 Cooper River Bridge Run.
