  • After 15 years of holding services at Ashley Ridge High School, Ashley Ridge Church will move into its own building next weekend—this new space marks the first phase of a project to better serve its 1,200 members, who have long outgrown the 300-seat setup. The church has overcome years of delays and rising costs and now secures a permanent home near the high school.  ABC 4 News
  • A Charleston interior designer restored an 18th century palace in Kolkata to provide a safe haven for women rescued from trafficking and for their children. The renovated building now offers job training, day care and shelter—along with high security—to help those in need rebuild their lives.  The Post and Courier
  • Wildcat—a friendly, medium hound mix with big floppy ears and calm car manners—is available at Charleston Animal Society; the 4-year-old from North Charleston loves treats and stays composed around geese.  The Post and Courier

  • A driver who tried to flee law enforcement died during an escape attempt in Berkeley County—his identity was confirmed by the coroner.  Live 5 News

  • Several members of Charleston’s creative community will share what inspires them at PechaKucha 48 on Sept. 9 at Charleston Music Hall — tickets cost $16.50 and doors open at 6:30 p.m., while Maura Hogan serves as emcee to guide the 10 creative presentations.  Charleston City Paper
  • The Singers of Summerville will open their 22nd season this fall under the direction of Emily Reeves Bohl. Their fall concert Missa Eclectica is set for Nov. 7 (at Peace Church) and Nov. 8 (at Bethany United Methodist Church in Summerville) while their spring concert Breath of Ecstasy will take place on April 10 and 11, 2026 along with other community events.  The Post and Courier

  • The Department of Justice demanded that South Carolina’s State Election Commission send an electronic copy of 3.3 million voter registration records and a list of election officials from November 2022—needed to assess federal compliance—by Sept. 5, while Gov.
