  • Image360 Charleston opened in North Charleston today with local entrepreneur David Williamson leading the company—he brings over 20 years of signage experience and appointed Zach Miller as general manager to guide daily operations. CULTURE NEWS

  • Acclaimed chef Daniel Humm — known for Eleven Madison Park — will launch a year-long pop-up restaurant at The Charleston Place's former Charleston Grill on Oct. 2. The restaurant will serve a $135 prix fixe menu with plant-forward seasonal dishes and wine pairings and will offer an apprenticeship program for local culinary professionals.  Charleston City Paper

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Berkeley County has over 5,600 unemployed and a career expo aimed at reducing the 4.7% rate will be held today in Moncks Corner at the Berkeley County Administration Building at 1003 Highway 52. Organized by the county Economic Development along with SC Works Trident and the Department of Social Services, the free expo will run from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. —local businesses will offer on-the-spot interviews—.  Count On 2

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Charleston County School District is working to improve child literacy rates by launching new programs—officials said updated reading curriculums and teacher training will soon be implemented across the district.  Live 5 News
  • Today, Charleston County School District said its expanded reading program is closing literacy gaps in classrooms—using new resources and improved teaching methods to help students learn better.  Live 5 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina's hands-free cell phone law took effect on Labor Day to keep drivers from holding phones while driving & officers are issuing warnings for six months to help people adjust. Fines and penalty points will start in March & drivers may use phones if they are on Bluetooth, voice-command or in a secure mount.  Charleston City Paper
  • On Tuesday, Charleston Police Department and Pattison's Academy held a training session to improve how officers interact with disabled individuals. The officers learned key communication methods through classroom lessons and hands-on activities with students.  ABC 4 News
  • Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson will appear at a sold-out event Tuesday at the Gaillard Center in Charleston—she will share stories from her memoir 'Lovely One' in a talk moderated by U.S. District Judge Richard Gergel. Her talk highlights her journey as the first Black woman on the U.S. Supreme Court and is expected to draw a large local audience.  Count On 2

HEALTH NEWS

  • The American Red Cross is urging Charleston families to prepare for emergencies during National Preparedness Month by gathering essential supplies (food, water, medications) and making a plan to reconnect if separated. Officials note that last year's storms affected many communities in the Palmetto State, so residents are advised to get ready for peak hurricane season.  Count On 2
