  • Charleston Farmers Market was named one of the best produce markets and local farms in South Carolina — an award recognizing the work of its dedicated vendors and loyal shoppers; it opens every Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Marion Square.  Count On 2
  • Charleston Habitat for Humanity and East Cooper Habitat for Humanity merged into one organization on Sept. 1—this union increases their capacity to build more homes and serve more families. The group continues daily operations with its headquarters at 731 Meeting St. and both retail stores remaining open.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

BUSINESS NEWS

  • American Airlines began a second daily flight from Charleston International Airport to LaGuardia on September 3 and will launch a third flight on November 3—using Embraer E170 and E175 aircraft to offer more travel options.  Count On 2

CULTURE NEWS

  • Local preservation advocates are urging a halt to the planned demolition of the century-old building at 280 Meeting Street, which houses three local businesses. The Preservation Society has noted strong public backing on social media ahead of a Board of Architectural Review meeting on Wednesday, September 10th at the City of Charleston offices at 2 George Street—calling for the landmark to be saved.  ABC 4 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Charleston's job market grew rapidly between June and July as the metro area added 900 jobs and recorded an unemployment rate of 4%—one of the lowest in the region. Workforce experts said the health care field led local job postings and noted that Charleston's strong performance stands out amid a national slowdown.  The Daniel Island News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Members of the Charleston Commission on History approved recommendations to keep talking and learning about the College dorm project at 106 Coming Street, where many people are buried. The plan calls for more community input and talks with the Human Affairs and Racial Conciliation Commission— the College will meet on Monday, Sept. 22, from 6-7:30 p.m. at Michael Auerbach Auditorium to plan next steps.  ABC 4 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • Berkeley’s Roper St. Francis is expanding its lifesaving cardiovascular care services to treat more patients. The hospital will soon offer new cardiac procedures and improved emergency response — steps that are expected to save lives locally.  Live 5 News
