- ➤ A road safety project in Charleston that began after a hit-and-run incident in 2024 killed two college students nears its end—officials say improved traffic features will soon enhance safety. Live 5 News
- ➤ South Carolina Department of Transportation closed the two outside lanes on Sam Rittenberg Boulevard — Cosgrove Avenue at 9 p.m. Friday for deck repairs on the North Bridge over the Ashley River. Drivers should use alternative routes as repairs will continue until Sunday afternoon. Count On 2
- ➤ South Carolina began enforcing the new Hands-Free SC law on September 1, 2025 — the law bans drivers from holding or supporting any device to reduce distractions. During the six-month grace period officers issue warnings while future violations will incur a $100 ticket on the first offense and a $200 fine with two license points. Count On 2
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ MUSC broke ground on the $130M Nexton Medical Center in Berkeley County — a project that will include a 70-bed hospital offering general medicine, surgery, orthopedics, women’s health, and cardiology as well as a 30,000-square-foot outpatient cancer facility set to open in summer. The hospital will open in spring to serve the growing Nexton community and the broader Tri-County region. Charleston Regional Business Journal
- ➤ MUSC Health and Tidelands Health received board approvals to expand their partnership as the Medical University Hospital Authority will acquire a majority interest in Tidelands Health—final closing is set for fall and local staff will remain in place while new emergency and urgent care centers are planned.
