COMMUNITY NEWS

  • College of Charleston will host a community meeting on Monday, September 22 (6:00 to 7:30 p.m.) at the St. Julian Devine Community Center to update locals on the Coming Street Commons student housing project. The project will modernize housing by demolishing the 1964 former YWCA building, a site linked to civil rights history, located just north of Calhoun Street for easier campus access.  Count On 2
  • Today, community members on Sullivan’s Island joined the 36th Annual Beach Sweep — cleaning debris from the shoreline to protect the local environment.  Live 5 News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Charleston businesses are now offering drinks with THC and CBD to give customers a different way to enjoy a beverage. Local mixologists are adding these products to bars and stores as the market is expected to grow—providing more choices beyond alcohol.  Charleston City Paper

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • South Carolina state and college employees were fired after making social media posts following Charlie Kirk’s murder on Sept. 10; at least 10 individuals from Clemson, USC, Coastal Carolina and Greenville County lost their jobs amid political pressure, and free speech advocates say the actions violate First Amendment rights—lawmakers remain divided over the appropriate response.  Charleston City Paper
