  • Charleston fitness coach Body by Brad launches the community-centered Keep It Moving Tour this Saturday at The Waverly downtown—featuring live music, local food vendors, and health-focused small businesses, with plans to expand the tour to Greenville, Charlotte, and Atlanta this fall.   • Local restaurants in Charleston keep burgers priced under $10 despite a 51% rise in beef costs from supply shortages, tariffs, and environmental challenges. CULTURE NEWS

  • James Brown was a famed South Carolina musician who rocked Charleston in the 1950s at a venue called White’s Paradise—one of the key spots on the Chitlin Circuit for Black artists. He rose from humble beginnings to change funk music and his strong legacy lives on in local memory.  The Post and Courier
  • Singer-songwriter Dylan Cotrone will perform a solo acoustic show at Charleston Pour House (1977 Maybank Hwy) on Oct. 2 and will play songs that went viral with over 12 million views as the show starts at 5 p.m.  Charleston City Paper

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Breeze Airways will launch its first international flight from Charleston on Jan. 17, 2026—pending government approvals—and offer a weekly non-stop service to Cancun International Airport. The new route is expected to boost tourism and business travel in the region.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The state Department of Education is working with Critical Response Group to create digital maps of every public school in South Carolina to help law enforcement respond faster during emergencies—these maps will include floor plans and aerial views and be ready by early next year. The tool will be secured with high levels of protection and used exclusively by first responders.  Live 5 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Charleston International Airport and U.S. Customs & Border Protection have opened South Carolina’s first Global Entry Enrollment Center at the airport—a $724,300 investment that lets residents complete their Global Entry interviews without leaving the state. The 1,230-square-foot facility includes interview rooms, a waiting area and support space.  Charleston Regional Business Journal
  • The U.S. House approved the 2026 National Defense Authorization Act that provided $357.9 million for Joint Base Charleston—$65.4 million was reserved for a new nuclear training simulator, as Rep. Mace said. She described the move as a bipartisan win that will improve military training and enhance local defense.  My TV Charleston
  • Charleston County Council launched a public input process to help shape the future of transportation and green spaces—residents will share ideas at public meetings, stakeholder sessions, and an online survey as county leaders plan potential improvements and tax adjustments for the next 25 years.  My TV Charleston

HEALTH NEWS

  • Trident Health officials broke ground on a new emergency room on Maybank Highway yesterday to offer 24/7 care with 12 beds, a trauma room, and advanced imaging and lab capabilities for Johns Island residents. Community leaders say the facility will serve as a critical safety net by stabilizing patients before transferring them to larger hospitals if needed.  ABC 4 News
