GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • One year after Hurricane Helene hit Florida and swept through South Carolina—killing over 250 people, officials say recovery continues today with over $323 million in federal aid and $1.3 billion in state projects underway to rebuild communities.  South Carolina ETV
  • Charleston County emergency response team slowed down storm preparations after models from Sunday showed Tropical Depression Nine would have less severe effects on the Lowcountry—officials said they will continue to monitor the storm and adjust resources if needed.  Live 5 News

HEALTH NEWS

  • MUSC broke ground on Sept. 26 in Indian Land for a $300M hospital project that will include a three-story, 62,000-square-foot office building and a 52-bed hospital expected to open by 2027—this project will create 500 jobs and improve local access to health care. Piedmont Medical Center also plans to open an urgent care center in the area, set to begin operating in spring 2026.  The Post and Courier
