BUSINESS NEWS

  • Turkish Airlines has agreed to buy up to 75 South Carolina-made Boeing 787 Dreamliners — including 35 787-9 and 15 787-10 models with options for 25 more — and will also order up to 150 Boeing 737 MAX jets to boost its fleet while supporting over 123,000 U.S. jobs.  Charleston Regional Business Journal

CRIME NEWS

  • Moncks Corner Rural deputy fire chief died in the line of duty as he responded to an emergency—officials confirmed the incident and said investigations are underway.  Live 5 News

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The average gas price in South Carolina rose by 4.4 cents per gallon to $2.79 last week as the Lowcountry prepared for potential impacts from tropical storm Imelda—while the national average dropped by 5.8 cents to $3.08 due to seasonal factors.  ABC 4 News

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Spectrum Sailing, a national nonprofit for autistic youth, will hold a free three day sailing camp in Charleston from October 3 to 5 at the College of Charleston Sailing—teaching water safety, boat parts, knots and essential sailing skills. It was founded by Scott Herman after he had trouble finding an inclusive camp for his son and now serves 250 youth nationwide.  Count On 2

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Sacred Grove Preserve in St. Stephen offers a green burial process using biodegradable caskets or shrouds so that microbes return the body to the soil. Founder Arlette O'Rourke said clients can choose grave locations near natural landmarks to help restore the ecosystem.  ABC 4 News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Three student designs from K-5, 6-8, and 9-12 were chosen as winners on Monday in Charleston County’s 2025 I Voted! sticker contest after nearly 2,500 votes were cast. The winning stickers will be available at five early voting centers during early voting from Oct. 20 to Oct. 31 — Downtown, James Island, Mount Pleasant, North Charleston, and West Ashley.  ABC 4 News
  • Voter registration for the municipal election on Nov.4 must be completed by Oct.6—residents in Daniel Island and nearby areas can register in person, online, by fax, email or mail, and early voting will run from Oct.20–31.  The Daniel Island News
  • Charleston is nearing completion on the $75 million Low Battery Seawall Restoration Project—designed to raise the fifty-year-old wall by two feet to protect downtown from flooding, rising tides and storms. City officials say the improvements will better support emergency services and pedestrian access ahead of a projected finish in 2026.  ABC 4 News

SPORTS NEWS

  • The South Carolina Stingrays will host a Taylor Swift-themed Eras Night on Nov. 15 at the North Charleston Coliseum—fans can make friendship bracelets, see a Taylor Swift impersonator, and join a look-a-like competition.  ABC 4 News
  • The Lowcountry annual Trail Half Marathon and 5K race will take place on Oct. 4 at scenic Johns Island County Park—featuring a half marathon, 5K and Kids Dash—and will start at 7:50 a.m. for the Kids Dash and 8 a.m. for the other races, with registration ending on Oct. 1 and finishers receiving medals.  ABC 4 News
  • William Penn Statesmen are 5-0 and senior running back Des Loring, a Wando alum, has averaged 148 yards per game and tied the school record with five rushing touchdowns in a win over Culver-Stockton—he was inspired by a weight room sign to leave a legacy.  Count On 2
