- ➤ Charleston residents can support Lowcountry children on Oct. 11 at The Windjammer’s 13th Annual Carolina Children’s Charity Cornhole Tournament held on the front beach volleyball court. On-site check-in is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., games start at 12:45 p.m. and live music begins at 7:30 p.m. — participants must register online and be 18 or accompanied by a guardian. Count On 2

- ➤ Eaton is investing $46 million in a new aerospace facility in North Charleston that will manufacture hydraulic pumps and motors and create 50 jobs — the project received a $125,000 state grant to assist with construction and will begin operations in 2028. Charleston Regional Business Journal

- ➤ The Gibbes Museum of Art will show Rembrandt etchings from Oct. 24 until Jan. 11—displaying 58 works and two original copper plates from the Netherlands—and marks a major milestone for new president and CEO Alex Rich. - ➤ The three Dill sisters preserved nearly 600 acres along the Stono River by donating their family land to form a wildlife sanctuary managed by the Charleston Museum, and a caretaker now maintains the historic farmhouse and Civil War fortifications. Community Day on Oct. 4 will offer guided nature walks and talks about the area—an opportunity for locals to connect with a unique piece of Charleston history. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Lowcountry residents saw a vivid double rainbow and brilliant sunset Monday night — moisture and sunlight created the rare display that charmed many viewers. Count On 2
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Residents in Northwood Estates and Deer Park have long asked for relief from I-26 traffic noise, and Councilwoman Stephanie Ganaway-Pasley is now working to secure a $17 million concrete noise wall. She met with local and state officials as rising traffic this fall is expected to worsen the noise—adding urgency to the plan. The Post and Courier
- ➤ Congress must act before midnight to pass a funding measure that will prevent a government shutdown which may force nearly 25,000 federal employees into furlough and require 34,000 active-duty military to work without pay while programs like Women, Infants, and Children suffer and sites such as Fort Sumter may close—experts warn a long shutdown could harm the local economy. - ➤ South Carolina farmers will receive $38.3 million in federal block grants to help rebuild infrastructure, timber, and other assets damaged by Hurricane Helene, as announced by the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The funds will be managed by the state’s Department of Agriculture to aid recovery & offset market uncertainty from tariff shifts. ABC 4 News

- ➤ Local mental health leaders in Charleston held an open forum during National Suicide Awareness Month to show signs of teen mental health issues and share resources for help — one in five teens have seriously thought about suicide. They plan to keep supporting children, teens, and families with available mental health services. Count On 2
- ➤ New free Naloxone stands have opened across Charleston County at James Island Town Hall, Hollywood Town Hall, College of Charleston Police Department, North Charleston Lodge, and the Al Cannon Detention Center Lobby to help fight the opioid crisis—officials say they monitor only the supply and not who uses the medicine. Businesses can partner with the sheriff's office to install a stand if they want to improve access further. ABC 4 News

- ➤ Seven high school football players from the Lowcountry have been chosen to play for South Carolina in the Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas on December 20th at Spartanburg High School—led by Stratford quarterback Jachin Davis.
