- ➤ Country music star Lee Brice will headline the 4th Annual Palmetto Freedom Fest on Daniel Island on November 7 as the event aims to raise scholarship funds for South Carolina families of fallen or disabled military members and first responders. Eric Timko— a Folds of Honor board member— said the festival will offer live music, a Harley-Davidson motorcycle raffle and community honors for about 50 local service members. The Daniel Island News

- ➤ Fifth-grade students at Pinehurst Elementary School in North Charleston created a poetry anthology about loss, hope and belonging — a project organized by family service advocate Welieides Moreira La Porte that aims to connect parents with the school. The Post and Courier

- ➤ Charleston Police Department is hosting a domestic violence awareness program today at 6 p.m. at Brittlebank Park—featuring remarks from Chief Walker and local nonprofit groups that will share resources for survivors. City of Charleston
- ➤ Today the City of Charleston board will review the preliminary plat and construction plans for the proposed 102-unit Primus Park subdivision on 59.7 acres in Cainhoy — submitted by Thomas & Hutton Engineering for McAlister Togant Clements LLC. The Daniel Island News
- ➤ The town of Edisto Beach secured an extra $693,270 in SCIIP funding on Wednesday to fully complete wastewater system upgrades, including remaining lift station and treatment plant improvements. The work is underway and will finish by mid next year—Mayor Crawford Moore said the funding will modernize the system without extra cost to residents. Count On 2
- ➤ The Charleston County Council voted last week to begin asking residents if the half-cent transportation sales tax from 2004 should be extended to raise $4.25B for roads, transit, greenbelt and bike paths—public meetings and surveys will guide the next steps. Charleston Regional Business Journal

Falotico from Philip Simmons High and Quinn Mahoney from Bishop England have been named to the South's roster for the Touchstone Energy Bowl all-star game at Doug Shaw Stadium in Myrtle Beach on Dec. 13—Falotico is noted for his strong kickoffs while Mahoney has tallied many touchdowns this season. - ➤ Philip Simmons High School named Hayes Goddard as its starting quarterback after he impressed coach Eric Bendig with strong leadership during spring practice. The Iron Horses rebounded from early losses with three straight wins and will host Woodland High School this weekend as they aim for the Region 6-AA championship — Goddard has completed 54 passes in 111 attempts for 760 yards and nine touchdowns with no interceptions.
